Project Color App
The core experience
People love exploring their options for paint. It’s a combination of inspiration and discovery, and it drives countless customers into Home Depot stores every day. But what if we could also give customers the ability to try colors out from home?
This is where Project Color comes into the picture. It builds the in-store color wall into a single mobile app, one that helps customers find and purchase the paint they need.
I partnered with design and user research to develop the core experience of Project Color, including microcopy, privacy content and education for AR features.
Pinterest + Home Depot Design Sprint
Building on the core experience of the product, we also had the opportunity to partner with Pinterest—specifically to make the inspiration component of the app more relevant to every user.
I led the week-long design sprint with both teams to determine what we could build and why. This involved a range of discovery and design thinking activities, ultimately finishing the week with a full day of user testing.
The results? We ended the week with a prototype that: a) served users with relevant inspiration while b) protecting users’ privacy across apps—both in spirit and practice. This integration has since become a core component of the app.
